Now accounting for 20% of Abu Dhabi’s hotel guest stays, the leisure tourism segment has undergone major advancement in the past nine months and is poised for a significant stride forward later this year with the planned opening, on Yas Island, of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi – the world's largest indoor theme park.
With the segment now free from the restricted hotel room supply which previously characterised Abu Dhabi, it has begun to flourish with new properties including desert and island retreats, beachfront resorts and family hotel apartment accommodation capable of responding to demand.
A string of new leisure offerings have recently entered the market including open-top bus tours of the capital city, kayaking trips through mangrove forests, speedboat tours of the coastline and diving and fishing trips in scenic, glass topped boats, cycle hire, helicopter tours and a free, wakeboarding facility on the popular Corniche.
ADTA is consistently working with the industry to motivate product development in a bid to further balance the business/leisure profile of its hotel guest profile
